Rock and Roll can be so cruel

One's faith in the Fairy Godmother never really dies. It lies suppressed in the subconscious along with the catechism, hellfire and souls stained with sin and all that brainwashing we suffered as children.
My recent manifestation of the Fairy Godmother looks like a cross between Peter Garret and Osamer bin Laden.

Doc, as he is known to his friends, has been an acquaintance of mine for some time. He has an endearing quality that defies explanation like the affection some people hold for Chopper Reid. Doc has this manic enthusiasm characteristic of suicide bombers and any information he has to impart must be expurgated then and there before he pulls the pin and is transmogrified into mince confetti.

Anyway, the message from Doc (fairy godmother) was that he had somehow met the American head honcho of that revered social lubricant Jack Daniels. Doc had brought him down to a an Atomic Boogie gig and that Jack Daniels was so impressed they wanted to sponsor us. Over the next few days, and many phone calls later, Jack Daniels had taken over our lives.

There was to be a new marketing strategy, Jack was after a new and more mature market and the Atomic Boogie Band embodied all that was dear to the J.D. credo of good music (Texas R&B), good times and good drinking. There were promises of Lear jets, new PAs, new amps and drums and a plethora of roadies.
"Too good to be true" I hear you say. I said it too, but I checked around, and the head honcho had been here in BrisVegas. He had been looking at venues, so Doc could have been right. Sometimes you just want to believe. By the end of the week we were ready to sign contracts and buy new houses for our mums.
Friday night was our next meeting with Doc. We were doing a live recording at the Nash and we were all hyped up for the big news.

And then reality bit on Friday afternoon at a photo shoot and sound check.
The head honcho from JD turned out to be the local representative of the golden spirit. And the gig of our lives was a special Jack Daniel's night at the Australian National hotel with $4.00 drinks and a free T shirt.

Rock and Roll can be so cruel.
